Miles Davis Quintet – The Great Prestige Recordings
Deluxe 5-LP box set from Analogue Productions

One of Analogue Productions ' most sought-after collector's items is finally returning: The legendary deluxe box set "Miles Davis Quintet – The Great Prestige Recordings" is being re-released in an elaborately produced edition.

This extraordinary set documents the pinnacle of Miles Davis's work for the legendary Prestige label between 1951 and 1956 – immediately before his move to Columbia. To fulfill his contractual obligations, Miles Davis, along with his first large quintet, recorded several albums in two legendary marathon sessions on May 11 and October 26, 1956, at Rudy Van Gelder 's studio. Producer Bob Weinstock opted for a deliberately relaxed approach: the quintet recorded their live repertoire almost without rehearsals.

The result is the iconic albums "Cookin'" , "Relaxin'" , "Workin'" , and "Steamin'" – recordings originally intended only to quickly fulfill contractual obligations, but which proved to be milestones of hard bop . Spontaneous, swinging, and full of energy, they are among the most natural and vibrant jazz recordings of all time .

The first edition of this box set was awarded "Recording of the Month" by Stereophile in March 1997 and received five stars for music and sound .

The current reissue sets new standards:
All five LPs were meticulously remastered from the original master tapes by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio and pressed on heavy 180-gram vinyl (33 rpm) at Quality Record Pressings (QRP) . Each record is housed in a high-quality tip-on sleeve from Stoughton Printing . The set is complemented by a 12-page booklet with insightful liner notes by Bob Blumenthal .

Conclusion:
A magnificently designed box set of the highest historical significance and with outstanding sound quality – an absolute must for discerning jazz lovers and vinyl collectors.
