Timeless sound art since 1883.
Thorens is an icon of analogue reproduction: The company was founded in 1883 by Hermann Thorens in the Swiss Jura, originally to manufacture music boxes and mechanical musical mechanisms. In its first decades, Thorens expanded its product range, from cylinder phonographs to gramophones and electric record players.
Starting in the 1950s, Thorens established itself as a pioneer in high-end turntable construction with models like the legendary TD 124. Numerous innovations emerged in the following decades: subchassis designs, mass-heavy drives, and modern components that made Thorens a household name among vinyl enthusiasts.
Following economic turbulence and a change of ownership, Thorens was reorganized in 2018 under the leadership of Gunter Kürten – based in Germany and with a clear focus on high-quality turntables with soul and technical depth.
A Thorens turntable stands not only for technical expertise, but also for a sound philosophy: music that speaks independently of effects and exaggeration – direct, honest, and full of depth.
