Korf Audio TA-SF9 Tonearm Series II
We mean
The Korf Audio TA-SF9 Series II tonearm is designed for listeners who value mechanical precision over sonic gimmicks. It follows an uncompromising technical approach, where the bearing design, material selection, and geometry are consistently optimized for low friction, controlled resonances, and clean energy dissipation. Sonically, the TA-SF9 is calm, structured, and free of any emphasis. It's not a tonearm that tries to impress – but one that works unobtrusively and effectively.
Product presentation
The TA-SF9 Series II is a 9-inch tonearm with medium effective mass, designed for a wide range of modern moving-coil and moving-magnet cartridges. At the heart of its construction is the horizontal Flexure pivot bearing , which operates entirely without conventional plain or ball bearings. Instead, horizontal movement is achieved via an elastic metal structure that exhibits virtually no breakaway torque and mechanical friction.
A precise hybrid ceramic bearing handles the vertical movement. This combination allows for extremely sensitive stylus movements, even with small modulations, without introducing mechanical noise or bearing artifacts into the system.
The tonearm tube is made of stainless steel and is rigidly bonded to an aluminum oxide ceramic headshell. This rigid, homogeneous unit eliminates transitions that could store or reflect energy. Internal wiring uses high-quality OCC stranded wire, which runs continuously from the headshell to the 5-pin connector.
The Series II version brings revised adjustment options for azimuth and VTA, an optimized base, and higher reproducibility in the setting.
Special features / Features
Flexure pivot horizontal bearing
The horizontal bearing operates entirely without friction surfaces. There is no breakaway torque, no bearing noise, and no wear. Especially during quiet passages and with warped records, tracking remains stable and controlled.
Hybrid ceramic vertical bearings
The vertical movement is achieved via high-precision ceramic bearings with very low friction and high long-term stability. This ensures that the needle guidance remains precise even with dynamically demanding materials.
Ceramic headshell
The integrated headshell made of alumina-ceramic combines high rigidity with very low inherent resonance. The firm connection to the tonearm tube prevents micro-movements and ensures clean impulse transmission.
Magnetic anti-skating
The antiskating mechanism works without contact, using magnetic force. This eliminates additional friction points or mechanical noise that could affect tracking performance.
High system compatibility
With an effective mass of around 19 g, the TA-SF9 is suitable for many modern MC systems as well as for selected MM cartridges.
Technology & Materials
The tonearm is designed as a complete mechanical system. Stainless steel arm tube, ceramic headshell, precision bearings, and stable base work together seamlessly. The material mix is deliberately chosen to dissipate resonances in a controlled manner, rather than dampening them.
Internal wiring uses oxygen-free copper in a Litz configuration. Transitions and connectors are minimized. The base clamps the tonearm securely in the turntable chassis to prevent energy loss through micro-movements.
All mechanical components are precisely manufactured, without decorative elements or superfluous controls.
Sustainability & Manufacturing
Korf Audio manufactures in small batches, focusing on durability and serviceability. The TA-SF9 is entirely mechanically constructed, without exotic or short-lived components. Bearings, wiring, and adjustment elements are designed for long-term use. The design follows functional principles and avoids fleeting trends.

Test reports / Press reviews
In German specialist reviews, the TA-SF9 is described as exceptionally well-engineered. The frictionless bearing design and the calm, controlled sound reproduction are particularly praised. The sonic characteristics are described as neutral, precise, and structured, with stable soundstage imaging and clean bass control.
It is repeatedly emphasized that the tonearm adds no coloration of its own, but rather makes differences between cartridges clearly audible. The simple, reproducible setup of the Series II is cited as a significant improvement over previous versions.
Background / History / Development
Korf Audio originated from the approach of technically rethinking classic tonearm concepts. Instead of varying proven bearing designs, they developed the Flexure pivot bearing, a solution that fundamentally eliminates mechanical friction. The TA-SF9 is one of the best-known results of this development philosophy and has been refined through several iterations. The Series II represents an evolutionary development, not a complete redesign.
Basic knowledge
Flexure bearings
A flexure bearing utilizes the elastic deformation of a metal instead of rotating bearing surfaces. This results in virtually no friction and no wear.
Effective mass
The effective mass of a tonearm determines which cartridges are mechanically the best fit. Medium-high values allow for greater flexibility in cartridge selection.
Antiskating
Antiskating counteracts the inward pulling force when playing a record. Magnetic systems operate without contact and friction.
Safety instructions
Electronic devices:
1. General Use: • Electronic devices are designed for use in enclosed, dry rooms only. Direct sunlight, moisture, and extreme temperatures may impair function. • Avoid proximity to water sources or other liquids. 2. Electrical Safety: • Use only with the specified power source (e.g., 220-240 V AC). An incorrect power source may damage the device or be hazardous. • Never connect the device to overloaded outlets or extension cords. • If there is any visible damage to the power cord or other components, do not operate the device. 3. Operation and Ventilation: • Place the device on a stable, flat surface. Do not block any ventilation slots to prevent overheating. • Ensure sufficient distance from other devices or walls (at least 10 cm) to ensure optimal ventilation. 4. Children and Pets: • Keep the device away from children and pets, especially small parts that could be swallowed.
Speakers:
1. Setup: • Place speakers on a stable and secure surface or use suitable speaker stands. Tipping over may cause injury or damage. • Position speakers so they are not obstructed and optimal sound dispersion is ensured. 2. Environmental Conditions: • Speakers are intended for use in dry, enclosed spaces. Avoid moisture and direct sunlight, which could damage materials or electronics. 3. Connections: • Use only compatible amplifiers and cables that meet the speaker's technical specifications. • Avoid incorrect polarity connections to prevent damage to the speaker or amplifier. 4. Children and Pets: • Speakers are not toys. Make sure they are placed out of reach of children and pets. 5. Care: • Clean the surface with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use chemical cleaners or water.
Cable:
1. Use: • Cables are for their intended use only. Use them only with devices that meet the cable's technical specifications. • Ensure that all connections are secure and tight for optimum performance. 2. Handling: • Never pull on the cable to remove it from a device. Always hold the plug firmly. • Do not bend, overstretch, or place excessive strain on the cable. Cables should not run under heavy objects. 3. Children and Pets: • Keep cables away from children and pets as they can be a strangulation or injury hazard. 4. Inspection: • Check cables regularly for visible damage such as breaks, cracks, or frayed ends. Damaged cables must be replaced immediately.
