Korf Audio TA-AF9 / TA-AF10 Tonearm Series II
We mean
The Korf Audio TA-AF9/10 Tonearms Series II is a technically unconventional tonearm with a continuous ceramic arm tube and headshell , combining mechanical innovation with audiophile fidelity. Where many tonearms vary classic metal and bearing combinations, the TA-AF9/10 consistently relies on high-strength ceramic and a low-friction horizontal bearing, complemented by precise silicon nitride vertical bearings. Sonically, it presents itself as open, direct, and with astonishing control over dynamics and detail, without any "ornamental" tonal coloration. In this tonearm, a clear, objective approach meets a result that surpasses many traditional concepts.
Product presentation
The Korf Audio TA-AF9/10 Tonearms Series II are available in two effective lengths – 9 inches and 10 inches – at no extra cost, and feature a uniform construction made of alumina-ceramic. Both the arm tube and headshell are constructed from this highly rigid material, which, compared to steel or aluminum tubes, exhibits significantly higher flexural strength and reduced resonance. This material strategy is designed to minimize mechanical energy loss and effectively dissipate resonances.
In the horizontal bearing area, a Flexure pivot system is used. Instead of a conventional bearing with balls or sliding surfaces, a torsionally rigid structure is employed, resulting in virtually no starting torque, friction, or mechanical wear. Vertically, the tonearm utilizes ceramic ball bearings, which are among the ceramic ball bearings with the lowest known breakaway torques and offer very high precision in vertical movements.
The TA-AF9/10's adjustments include VTA, overhang, and azimuth. The Series II version offers more precise adjustments, especially for azimuth, and a robust, easy-to-mount base that can be used with either a JIS/Linn flange or an SME sliding base. Internal wiring consists of 6N OCC Litz conductors with light shielding.
Special features / Features
Ceramic arm tube – Arm tube made of alumina ceramic with high flexural strength, minimizing mechanical energy losses and self-resonances.
Integrated ceramic headshell – Headshell also made of ceramic, which increases structural integrity and reduces unwanted inter-resonances.
Flexure-Pivot horizontal bearings – contactless horizontal guidance without classic bearing surfaces, virtually no breakaway torque, no friction, maintenance-free.
Ceramic ball vertical bearings – Ceramic bearings with very low coefficient of friction and high precision, supporting a clean vertical movement without micro-backlash.
Magnetic antiskating – contactless skating compensation without additional friction points in the signal path.
Flexible mounting – choice between JIS/Linn flange and SME sliding base, depending on turntable configuration.
Fine adjustment of azimuth – Series II mechanism with more sensitive azimuth adjustment range.
Technology & Materials
The ceramic construction of the TA-AF9/10 is not merely a cosmetic effect, but a deliberate choice of material: Alumina ceramic has a significantly higher stiffness relative to its weight than steel and even greater advantages over aluminum or titanium. This stiffness is intended to ensure that mechanical energy is not stored in the tube, but rather transferred in a controlled manner to the turntable chassis.
Horizontal movement is achieved via a Flexure pivot bearing, which operates without conventional friction surfaces and therefore has no starting torque. Vertically, a pair of silicon nitride ceramic bearings ensures precise, low-friction guidance. The internal wiring consists of high-quality 6N OCC Litz cables with light shielding, routed to minimize transitions and contact points. The mounting base clamps the tonearm securely and stably in the turntable chassis to minimize mechanical energy loss.
Sustainability & Manufacturing
Korf Audio manufactures the TA-AF9/10 in limited production runs, focusing on mechanical precision and durability. Maintenance-free bearings, high-strength materials, and user-friendly adjustment elements are selected to ensure the tonearm operates reliably for years and remains mechanically unchanged even after intensive use. There are no fashionable design gimmicks; instead, every design decision serves a clear technical function.

Test reports / Press reviews
LP Magazine writes about the TA-AF9/10: “The vocals are rock-solid, nothing vibrates or wobbles. In fact, this is probably one of the most spectacular tonearm/cartridge combinations I have encountered over the years.” This statement underscores the impression of a tonearm that impresses with unusual control over movement and tracking, and which does not restrict the cartridge's performance, but rather liberates it.
Independent reviewers highlight that the combination of ceramic tube, high-end bearing technology and consistent mechanical design results in a sound reproduction that surpasses what is typically found in this price range in many areas.
Background / History / Development
The TA-AF9/10 was developed by Korf Audio as a logical extension of their tonearm philosophy: Based on the premise that mechanical friction, energy storage, resonances, and mass distribution fundamentally influence playback quality, this led to the use of alumina-ceramic for the arm tube and headshell, as well as the implementation of Flexure pivot and silicon nitride bearings. The Series II variant incorporates improvements in the mechanics and adjustment functions.
Basic knowledge
Ceramic as a material – Alumina ceramic offers exceptionally high stiffness and low resonance relative to weight compared to steel, aluminum or titanium.
Flexure pivot bearings – This bearing design uses elastic deformation instead of surface contact, resulting in virtually no friction, no breakaway torque and no wear.
Silicon nitride bearings – High-precision ceramic ball bearings with very low coefficient of friction and high long-term stability.
Safety instructions
Electronic devices:
1. General Use: • Electronic devices are designed for use in enclosed, dry rooms only. Direct sunlight, moisture, and extreme temperatures may impair function. • Avoid proximity to water sources or other liquids. 2. Electrical Safety: • Use only with the specified power source (e.g., 220-240 V AC). An incorrect power source may damage the device or be hazardous. • Never connect the device to overloaded outlets or extension cords. • If there is any visible damage to the power cord or other components, do not operate the device. 3. Operation and Ventilation: • Place the device on a stable, flat surface.
