Andreas Scholl & Edin Karamazov - In Darkness Lowswing Records Vinyl Audiophile
Our tip for you.
Strictly limited!
In early 2025, Andreas Scholl, one of the world's most renowned countertenors, and Edin Karamazov, the master lutenist, met at LowSwing Studio to record "In Darkness." The album marks a milestone: it is the first vinyl release featuring Andreas Scholl's voice, whose previous recordings were only available in digital formats. Scholl, known for his pure tone and emotional depth, and Karamazov, who achieved widespread popularity through collaborations with Sting, the Hilliard Ensemble, and many others, share a musical friendship that spans more than three decades. Their performances radiate the trust, subtlety, and profound understanding that only years of collaboration can produce. Guy Sternberg, producer, sound engineer, and founder of LowSwing, describes "In Darkness" as "a 17th-century singer-songwriter album."
"In Darkness" features a collection of folk songs from the Baroque and Renaissance periods, including works by John Dowland, the most celebrated English composer of the Renaissance. Although both artists had previously performed some of these songs, this recording reveals a new expressiveness. "In Darkness" was recorded live at the new LowSwing Studio in Berlin, directly to master tape, without any editing or manipulation. The listener is presented with a pure, unadulterated performance: two mature artists at the height of their powers, without studio tricks or cosmetic embellishments. The numbered and strictly limited 140-gram LP (45 rpm) was mastered at Emil Berlin Studios, cut to lacquer foil by Sidney Claire Meyer, and pressed at the Pallas record factory. The booklet contains detailed information about the mixing console, recording equipment, microphone techniques, and effects units used.
