THORENS TD 124 DD – TRADITION MEETS INNOVATION
The TD 124 was first introduced in 1957 and served for decades in countless radio studios around the world. Ambitious music lovers quickly discovered this incredibly precise turntable for home use; a dedicated fan base remains loyal to the legendary turntable to this day.
Thorens is now building on this tradition with the completely redesigned TD 124 DD, continuing it with innovative technologies. The puristic design and basic construction are based on the original, but the height-adjustable aluminum chassis now rests on vibration-damping rubber elements. Instead of the original drive with friction wheel and belt, the new TD 124 DD uses a "High Precision" direct drive. This delivers powerful torque, enables precise speed control, and keeps disruptive influences from the drive away from the turntable platter.
THORENS TD 124 DD – CONSISTENTLY DEVELOPED FOR THE BEST SOUND
The equally new TP 124 tonearm can be precisely adjusted to the cartridge in use and features an innovative anti-skating solution with ruby bearings. The developers have also equipped the TD 124 DD with a patented new electric tonearm lift, which ensures gentle insertion and removal of the stylus.
In addition to the extensive adjustment options, the included headshell provides considerable flexibility in cartridge selection. The package also includes an additional, slightly heavier counterweight that fits the separately available Thorens SPU TD 124 cartridge. This is a version of the equally legendary Ortofon SPU specially tuned for the TD 124 DD, which Thorens developed together with Ortofon for fans of something special.
Thorens has consistently developed the new TD 124 DD to meet the highest sonic standards. A high-quality external power supply ensures interference-free power, and for connection to high-end systems, both unbalanced outputs and balanced XLR connectors are available. These, when combined with a suitably equipped phono preamplifier, guarantee optimal signal transmission and thus the best possible sound.
