Soulnote A-3 integrated amplifier
We think
The Soulnote A-3 is an integrated amplifier that pushes the boundaries of what's possible in the solid-state field. It combines the principles of the Series 3 preamplifier and monoblocks into a single unit – without compromising on performance, design, or sound. Its sophisticated design, featuring separate ground systems, high-quality transistors, and innovative components, makes it a winner for listeners seeking the highest resolution, naturalness, and a member experience without technical coloration. The A-3 acts like a window into the musical scene – detailed, vibrant, and full of spontaneity.
Product presentation
The Soulnote A-3 is part of the Series 3 product line and is available in two finishes: Premium Silver and Premium Black . The device is a real powerhouse - two 700-VA toroidal transformers supply the left and right channels separately, plus an additional transformer for control and pre-amp functions. The output power is 120 W per channel into 4 ohms . The A-3 uses a single-push-pull (SEPP) output stage with TO3-type transistors, similar to those used in the M-3 Series monoblocks. The pre-driver/driver stages operate in a Darlington configuration, and all control and relay functions are electrically isolated to minimize interference. A special feature is the complete separation of the ground wire systems for the left and right channel networks, as well as the use of a newly developed non-negative feedback (non-NFB) circuit in the voltage gain stage. This technical framework gives the A-3 clarity, control, and detail to a degree rarely heard in integrated amplifiers.
Special features
The Soulnote A-3 offers many outstanding features: it has three balanced (XLR) and three unbalanced (RCA) inputs; one of these inputs serves as a recording in/out with a bypass function, allowing sources to be played directly without affecting the volume control. The volume control uses resistive switching relays to prevent noise or sonic interference from electronic components. The cabinet design utilizes floating elements—the top cover and parts of the rear panel are not rigidly attached; this technology serves to minimize vibration and resonance. The heatsink is innovative: a solid copper plate acts both as a power rail for the power transistors and as a heat sink. This design reduces the need for additional wiring, and performance remains more stable under load.
Technology & Materials
The A-3's technology is based on high-quality components and a sophisticated architecture. The TO3 Metal CAN bipolar transistors in the output and driver stages ensure high current and power handling. The Darlington configuration ensures that the control voltage remains stable even at low levels and high power. The absence of negative feedback in the preamplifier (non-NFB) ensures that the signal remains direct and undistorted, and interference is minimized. Two powerful toroidal transformers (700 VA each) serve as the power supply, plus another for control functions; rectification and supply are redundant and robustly designed. This combination offers not only power but also an audible degree of calm, control, and resolution in every sound range.
Sustainability & Manufacturing
The Soulnote A-3 is manufactured in Japan with high standards of craftsmanship, using materials designed for durability and performance. The craftsmanship is meticulous – heavy, rigidly machined aluminum plates, high-quality connectors, and robust mechanics demonstrate that no cheap compromises were made. The weight of over 30 kg ensures not only thermal stability but also low vibration sensitivity. Soulnote also places great importance on user control over many aspects – such as switchable ground connections, bypass functions, and high-quality relays. All of this demonstrates that sustainability isn't just a marketing buzzword for the A-3, but part of the overall design and function.

Test reports / press reviews
There are now also German experts who have tested and evaluated the Soulnote A-3 . Ralph Werner writes on fairaudio.de:
"The Soulnote A-3 integrated amplifier is a real winner, an amp that's sure to impress. (...) The Soulnote A-3 appeals primarily to listeners who demand the highest resolution, 'natural' tones, and a high level of three-dimensionality in the reproduction. It offers a soundscape in which nothing is forgotten, and even seemingly insignificant elements in the background are transparently and naturally reproduced. In other words: It sounds completely untechnical, natural, and lets the music pass through virtually untouched."
Olaf Sturm at i-fidelity.net also judges:
"The Soulnote A-3 sounds outstanding. But this fact alone wasn't decisive for its claim to the reference throne. Its ability to engage the listener in a relaxed way is also important. The extent to which music can be emotionally stimulating can be experienced continuously with this amplifier. (...) Its sonic quality results from the combination of clever technology and skilled craftsmanship. Added to this are the perfect workmanship and timeless design of this integrated amplifier."
International reviews also point to the outstanding quality. A review by SoundStage Australia emphasizes the A-3's particularly clean channel separation, timing, and rhythm: The liveliness of the playback, even with complex musical layers, was described as excellent.
Background / History / Development
Soulnote is a Japanese high-end brand based in Sagamihara, Kanagawa, founded with the goal of not only presenting music technically, but also making its soul audible. The Series 3 components represent the current highest level of development, where technology is tested for sonic performance—not just based on measured values. The A-3 continues this philosophy: It integrates a preamp and power amplifier in a single enclosure with features otherwise found in separate, very expensive systems. The developer places particular emphasis on structural solutions such as floating panels, separate ground lines, and high-quality components that work together like the gears of a clockwork.
Basic knowledge (optional)
A few technical explanations:
Push-Pull (SEPP) output stage: This stage uses two complementary transistors, each responsible for the upper and lower parts of the signal. The advantage: better control even at high power and low distortion.
Non-Negative Feedback (non-NFB): Soulnote deliberately avoids feedback loops in the preamp to keep the signal more direct and lively. Negative feedback can often improve measured values, but at the expense of naturalness.
Floating panels: This technology reduces vibrations through minimized contact points and absorbing construction elements – positive for fine detail and spatiality in the sound.
