Die Titelauswahl für Gentle Blues umfasst neben bekannten Standards den japanischen Titel Tsuki No Sabaku (Desert on the Moon) sowie eine Komposition Yamamotos, Gentle Blues. Dessen bluesiger, teilweise funkiger Klavierstil wird unterstützt durch den swingenden Bassisten Hiroshi Kagawa und den Schlagzeuger Toshio Osumi.

Venus Records wurde 1992 in Japan von Tetsuo Hara gegründet, der zuvor als Produzent für RCA Victor tätig war. Das renommierte Label verwendet einen speziellen Mastering-Prozess namens „Hyper Magnum Sound“, der einen kraftvollen, präsenten Klang erzeugt und von Audiophilen weltweit sehr geschätzt wird. Ein kleiner Hinweis: Venus-LPs werden nur einmal gepresst. Wenn die Auflage vergriffen ist, wird der entsprechende Titel aus dem Katalog gestrichen und nicht mehr nachproduziert. Sammler sollten daher nicht allzu lange mit der Bestellung warten: Die Veröffentlichungen aus der „Venus Masterpiece Collection“ sind besonders beliebt!
