We think

We believe the EMT JSD 6 is not just a cartridge, but a living example of analog culture. It brings the unparalleled EMT studio DNA into the listening room of music lovers, combining uncompromising technology with musical emotion. With the choice of either a copper or silver coil , it appeals to both those who prefer dynamic, energetic reproduction and listeners who crave the greatest possible openness and detail. The JSD 6 makes music not only audible, but tangible – from the smallest nuances to the grandest emotional arcs.

Product presentation

The EMT JSD 6 is a high-end moving-coil (MC) cartridge from the renowned Jubilee series . Its all-aluminum housing , precisely milled and exquisitely anodized, is not only an aesthetic statement but also guarantees low resonance and stability. The heart of the system is the Super Fine Line (SFL) high-polish diamond on a boron cantilever , combined with hand-wound coils —available in copper or silver . Thus, the JSD 6 offers two distinct tonal characteristics without compromising on quality or precision.

With a weight of approximately 10 g , an output voltage of 1.05 mV , a compliance of 12 µm/mN and the EMT typical tracking angle of 23° , it plays at reference level and is compatible with a wide range of high-quality tonearms and phono preamplifiers.

Special features

What makes the JSD 6 special is the choice between two coil materials :

Copper coil – the classic EMT sound: lively, dynamic, with gripping energy and rhythmic immediacy. Copper delivers clear definition, offers body, and has been the preferred material for many MC cartridges for decades.

Silver coil – the audiophile alternative: the higher conductivity of silver makes the sound more open, more refined, and airy. Vocals appear even clearer, timbres more differentiated, and the soundstage wider and deeper.

Both versions benefit from identical construction: the boron cantilever , the gold-plated AlNiCo magnet , the SFL diamond tip, and the low-resonance aluminum housing . This ensures that the decision is based solely on sonic preference.

Technology & Materials

Inside the JSD 6 is a finely tuned MC generator , the likes of which can only be manufactured with this level of precision by EMT. The hand-wound coils are made of either 4N copper wire or high-purity silver wire —each crafted with the utmost care to ensure minimal loss and maximum signal purity. The boron cantilever is extremely stiff yet lightweight, allowing it to precisely transmit the finest movements of the SFL diamond needle . The aluminum housing is designed to effectively suppress vibrations while providing a stable base for the pickup. The gold-plated AlNiCo magnet ensures uniform field guidance and thus linear, natural signal conversion.

Sustainability & Manufacturing

Like all EMT cartridges , the JSD 6 is handcrafted in Switzerland – piece by piece by experienced specialists. Sustainability plays a central role: The JSD 6 is serviceable, can be restocked and repaired as needed, making it a long-term investment rather than a disposable product. Manufacturing in Europe keeps transport routes short, and the consistent selection of high-quality materials such as boron , silver , copper , aluminum , and AlNiCo magnets underscores the longevity of the concept.

Test reports / press reviews

In HiFi & Records, Helmut Rohrwild praised the EMT JSD 6 as an "absolute masterpiece" – a combination of technical mastery and musical expressiveness. He particularly emphasized the JSD 6's ability to reproduce even complex recordings with a balance of clarity , body, and emotional immediacy . Experts also emphasize the freedom of choice between copper and silver: while the copper version impresses with rhythmic energy and authority, the silver version shines with transparency and finer sonic detail.

Background / History / Development

The Jubilee Series (JSD) was introduced in 2006 to celebrate EMT's company anniversary. It marked the transition from pure studio technology to top-of-the-line audiophile products for discerning private users. The JSD 6 has been one of the centerpieces of this series ever since, representing the fusion of studio heritage and high-end refinement . Since 2018, it has been manufactured in Switzerland by EMT , where precision, craftsmanship, and musical passion converge. With two coil variants, copper and silver, EMT responds to the diverse listening preferences of analog fans—without diluting its own sound philosophy.

Copper coil vs. silver coil

Copper has been the standard material for pickup coils for decades. It offers a balanced blend of conductivity, stability, and dynamics. The copper version of the JSD 6 is characterized by a powerful, full-bodied, and rhythmically very direct reproduction.

Silver has an even higher electrical conductivity. In practice, this translates into greater openness, finer resolution, and an airy soundstage. The silver version of the JSD 6 is therefore ideal for listeners seeking that last bit of transparency and the finest detail.

Both variants share the same mechanical structure and differ only in the coil material – the choice therefore depends entirely on your personal sound preference.

Safety instructions

Electronic devices:
1. General Use: • Electronic devices are designed for use in enclosed, dry rooms only. Direct sunlight, moisture, and extreme temperatures may impair function. • Avoid proximity to water sources or other liquids. 2. Electrical Safety: • Use only with the specified power source (e.g., 220-240 V AC). An incorrect power source may damage the device or be hazardous. • Never connect the device to overloaded outlets or extension cords. • If there is any visible damage to the power cord or other components, do not operate the device. 3. Operation and Ventilation: • Place the device on a stable, flat surface. Do not block any ventilation slots to prevent overheating. • Ensure sufficient distance from other devices or walls (at least 10 cm) to ensure optimal ventilation. 4. Children and Pets: • Keep the device away from children and pets, especially small parts that could be swallowed.
Speakers:
1. Setup: • Place speakers on a stable and secure surface or use suitable speaker stands. Tipping over may cause injury or damage. • Position speakers so they are not obstructed and optimal sound dispersion is ensured. 2. Environmental Conditions: • Speakers are intended for use in dry, enclosed spaces. Avoid moisture and direct sunlight, which could damage materials or electronics. 3. Connections: • Use only compatible amplifiers and cables that meet the speaker's technical specifications. • Avoid incorrect polarity connections to prevent damage to the speaker or amplifier. 4. Children and Pets: • Speakers are not toys. Make sure they are placed out of reach of children and pets. 5. Care: • Clean the surface with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use chemical cleaners or water.
Cable:
1. Use: • Cables are for their intended use only. Use them only with devices that meet the cable's technical specifications. • Ensure that all connections are secure and tight for optimum performance. 2. Handling: • Never pull on the cable to remove it from a device. Always hold the plug firmly. • Do not bend, overstretch, or place excessive strain on the cable. Cables should not run under heavy objects. 3. Children and Pets: • Keep cables away from children and pets as they can be a strangulation or injury hazard. 4.
